Some people are worried that the GLP-1 agonist medications used to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity (such as Ozempic, Wegovy, etc) might cause thyroid cancer. A research study reviewed the electronic health records of a little over 24,000 people with type 2 diabetes prescribed either Ozempic (semaglutide), Victoza (liraglutide), or Trulicity (dulaglutide) to determine if a relationship exists between GLP-1 agonist therapy and thyroid cancer. After a review of a 5-year follow-up period, the researchers concluded there is no clear relationship between GLP-1 agonists and thyroid cancer in humans.
